Kris... Country music sucks..... OK now the review. Jeff Bridges plays an old country music singer who is run down and at the back half of his life. Although only 57 he seems over 70 because of the life he has lead. He drinks and smokes way to much. He meets a younger woman on his travels and spends time with her and her son. Bridges will get a Oscar nomination and deserves it but wont win. He has always been a solid actor. He was also excellent in The Men who stare at goats. In my book though he will always be "The Dude" :) Colin Farrell is pretty good in this movie although i felt like his character didn't have much depth. I surprised at how good a singer he was. Maggie Gyllenhaal was all right. She is not a pretty girl by any stretch of the imagination but she is a good actress. So all in all its good but not great and country music sucks :)
Steph...Country music does not suck. Its not my favorite genre of music but I am so buying the soundtrack to this movie. Jeff Bridges is wonderful as a broken down country singer"Bad Blake" trying to make a comeback. Maggie Gyllenhaal was great in a subtle understated role as woman who loves a man she knows she shouldn't. Colin Farrell really impressed me. Who knew "Mr. Super Irish" could convincingly play an American country bad boy? And sing. Jeff Bridges should win for this role, but like Kris said, he probably won't. But there will be tons of buzz around this movie, so go see it as soon as you can!
