Daybreakers

Kris.... Set in the not so distant future somehow most of the world have become vampires. The last normal humans are hunted and farmed for there blood. Problem is the supply is running low and the vampires are turning into monsters. I liked this movie a lot. Yes its bloody which i dig but the story is tight and the action was good. The actors all did a good job. I have always liked Ethan Hawk and he is strong here also. It was good to see a vampire movie that isn't for emo teens. So i say see it. You wont be disappointed.

Steph... Not bad. I found this movie to be entertaining. It's definitely bloody, almost comically so at some points. This movie is not for people with weak stomachs but if you like vampires its worth a watch.

Steph's Top 10 of the Decade

Ok Kris, you did your list now it’s my turn! I didn't base my list on popularity, or if its been critically acclaimed or not. My criteria is it had to be a movie I absolutely love and that I can (or mostly likely have) watch over and over again. Now let’s get to the list! :)

Number 1...There Will Be Blood

There Will Be Blood (2007)

This is the most hypnotic movie of the past decade. Its just amazing to watch Daniel Day Lewis's performance of Daniel Plainview who is an oil man who stumbles upon a huge strike and gets very rich, but loses his humanity in the process. You just keep watching the movie thinking that this man has totally lost his mind, but you can't take your eyes off him.

This movie got Daniel Day Lewis his second much deserved Oscar, not to mention thousands of youtube parodies, a catch phrase "I Drink YOUR MILKSHAKE!" and even a “Speak like Daniel Plainview Day” (April 29).

Number 2...Moulin Rouge!

Moulin Rouge! (2001)

How do I count the ways I love this movie? I have seen this so many time I've lost count. At any given time I can recite any scene from this movie.

Moulin Rouge is a musical about a man named Christian (Ewan McGregor) a penniless poet who falls in love with Satine ( the Moulin Rouge's top courtesan). They have to hide their love because Satine's boss, Harold Zidler (Jim Broadbent) has promised her to a jealous Duke (Richard Roxburgh). This is all set to redone modern day music and flashy bright colors. Definatley director Baz Lurhman's masterpiece.

Number 3...The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight (2008)

This sequel of the Christian Bale batman series is not only one of the best movies of the last decade, but truly one of the best action movies ever made. This movie is about 3 hours long, but it just flies by. Batman/Bruce Wayne is once again struggling with who he is and how to keep Gotham City safe from criminals. After the district prosecutor Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) who happens to be dating Bruce Wayne’s lifelong friend and love interest Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal) locks up half the city’s criminals, the mob gets upset and hires The Joker (Heath ledger) to go after Harvey Dent. The Joker, who was first hired to go after Batman and then later Harvey Dent, just loves creating chaos for chaos sake. He can not be controlled, bought, sold, or stopped. How can Batman possibly save Gotham and the people he loves from this insane clown?

This movie sucks you in and makes you believe in the characters and the world they live in. Heath Ledger takes the character of The Joker and turns him into a deranged, immoral, unstoppable, completely insane, yet some how likeable person.

Number 4...Almost Famous

Almost Famous (2000)

Loosely based on director and writer Cameron Crowes adolescence as a writer for Rolling Stone, Almost Famous is about a young high school writer William Miller (Patrick Fugit) who is assigned to write an article about an up and coming band while going on tour with them. He sees all the behind-the-scenes things that go on with bands; the groupies, the ego's, the highs, the lows, etc. Things get a little complicated when he falls for Penny Lane a groupie (or band aide) who is dating the lead singer (Billy Crudup as Russell Hammond) of the band he is writing about. This movie is wildly entertaining, great soundtrack and just an overall great movie.

Number 5...Shaun of the Dead

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

The tagline of this movie is "A romantic comedy with zombies" and that’s exactly what it is. Shaun (Simon Peg) is an average boring man whose girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) breaks up with him because they always hang out at the same bar with his best friend Ed (Nick Frost). The morning after the break up, Shaun goes about his normal daily routine blissfully unaware that most of the people around him have turned into zombies, until he accidently kills one. Once Shaun and Ed are aware of what is happening, Shaun will stop at nothing to make sure that Liz is ok and possibly win her back in the process. This movie is sweet, bloody, and really funny; all things that I like.

Number 6...Memento

Memento (2000)

This movie is amazing. Shot entirely backwards, Memento is about Leonard (Guy Pirece), a man who suffered a terrible attack that left his wife dead and him with only a short term memory. Because he is not able to remember things long term he has to use notes and the tattoo he put all over his body to try and find the person responsible for what happened to him and his wife. This movie is completely innovative and keeps you guessing the whole time.

Number 7...Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2

Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 (2003)

First, let me just say I love Quentin Tarantino. And this is one of his greatest films. Kill Bill is the story of a warrior woman (Uma Thurman as The Bride) who will stop at nothing to kill her former lover Bill (David Carradine) who shot her in the head and left her for dead while pregnant during her wedding rehearsal. This movie is violent, artsy, goes back and forth, there is animation, Asian folklore, and pop culture references. This movie isn't for everybody but definitely worth watching.

Number 8...Across the Universe

Across the Universe (2007)

This is the tale of Jude (Jim Strugess) a poor boy from Liverpool who falls in love with Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood) the upper class little sister of his friend Max (Joe Anderson). The story takes place in the turbulent 1960’s and set to the music of The Beatles. Its The Beatles, what’s not to like?

Number 9....Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity (2009)

When young suburban couple Katie and Micah move in together they start hearing strange noises at night when they go to sleep. Micah sets up a video camera in the couple’s bedroom to try and capture and figure what is happening.

This was truly the little movie that could. Shot with just a basic camera and no real special effects, this movie went on to become hugely popular, and scary. I know this movie is a bit new but I added this to my list because I can just watch this over and over. Plus, this is the only movie I have ever seen that has ever truly scared me

Number 10...Religulous

Religulous (2008)

Religulous is Bill Mahrs documentary about religion in today’s society. Bill travels around the globe and talks to many different people of many different faiths to get their prospective on religion in general. This is so funny, so entertaining, and he has a good message “what’s so wrong with saying I don’t know?”

Crazy Heart

Kris... Country music sucks..... OK now the review. Jeff Bridges plays an old country music singer who is run down and at the back half of his life. Although only 57 he seems over 70 because of the life he has lead. He drinks and smokes way to much. He meets a younger woman on his travels and spends time with her and her son. Bridges will get a Oscar nomination and deserves it but wont win. He has always been a solid actor. He was also excellent in The Men who stare at goats. In my book though he will always be "The Dude" :) Colin Farrell is pretty good in this movie although i felt like his character didn't have much depth. I surprised at how good a singer he was. Maggie Gyllenhaal was all right. She is not a pretty girl by any stretch of the imagination but she is a good actress. So all in all its good but not great and country music sucks :)

Steph...Country music does not suck. Its not my favorite genre of music but I am so buying the soundtrack to this movie. Jeff Bridges is wonderful as a broken down country singer"Bad Blake" trying to make a comeback. Maggie Gyllenhaal was great in a subtle understated role as woman who loves a man she knows she shouldn't. Colin Farrell really impressed me. Who knew "Mr. Super Irish" could convincingly play an American country bad boy? And sing. Jeff Bridges should win for this role, but like Kris said, he probably won't. But there will be tons of buzz around this movie, so go see it as soon as you can!

Top Ten of the Decade

Kris....Well every ones doing it ,so why don't I? I thought hard and long about it. Made 4 or 5 versions with movies dropping on and off the list. I had maybe 38 movies on my list that i got down to 18 or so. Then down to 13. The final cut was extremely hard but this is my 10. Before i start i would like to mention a few that didn't make the list but deserve mentions. Cast Away, The Aviator, The Bourne Triligy, The Prestige, Moon, Taken, Quantum of Solace, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, School of Rock, Catch me if you can, Minority Report, The Ring, Reign of Fire and Oceans 11.

Number 1 ... Children of Men

Kris...This movie starts with a bang and has a shocking middle turn. Children are no longer being born and the world is slowly starting. Clive Owen has to escort the lone pregnant woman to the coast in this dangerous near future.Michael Caine,Julianne Moore are both excellent and Clive Owen is totally amazing.

Number 2 .... There will be Blood

Kris...I drink your milkshake..... I drink it up. Daniel Day Lewis as off the charts here. He plays an oilman obsessed with finding the black gold. Also check him out in Gangs of New York. Every time is see this movie i love it a little more. Lewis is a tour da force and this is a must see if just for him alone. The other actors are good though and the stark music score and cinematography are excellent also.

Number 3 .... The Dark Knight

Kris....Where to start? The cast is very good in this tight thriller. Christian Bale returns as batman. Heath Ledger gives the second best performance of the decade behind Daniel Day Lewis in There will be Blood.Batman Begins was good but this takes it to the next level. Ledgers joker is a totally crazy psychopath that you actually root for and maybe even like.Gary Oldman ,Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart and Michael Caine are all good.

Number 4 ...... The Departed

Kris....One of the best casts of all time here. Matt Damon,Jack Nicholson,Mark Wahlberg are all at the top of there games here but the star is Leonardo DiCaprio. This Scorsese movie is thrilling and will keep you entertained from start to finish.

Number 5 .... Inside Man

Kris....Denzel Washington has been one of the most reliable actors of the last 20 years. Here he plays a detective called to negotiate a bank robbery with hostages. He is excelent but the real star here is Clive Owen. He plays the leader of the bank robbers with a motive besides money. Jodie Foster is very good as well. Spike Lee directed this and is the first of his movies I really liked.

Number 6 .... I am Legend

Kris...Will Smith made many very good movies this decade but this is the best. He plays possibly the last man alive. He plays a geneticist who has to figure out how to turn all the infected people back into normal non monsters.

Number 7 ..... Dawn of the Dead

Kris...A group of people hold up in a mall with hundreds of thousands of dead zombies outside trying to get them. Sounds like the perfect movie to me. Lots of good acting here and a very good script. To bad they didn't make a sequel. When ever a zombie movie come out from now on I compare it to this.

Number 8 ..... 28 Days Later

Kris....The second best zombie movie of the decade.OK not really zombies as much as insane infected people. Cillian Murphy is the lead who plays a man who wakes up from a coma to find the world has gone to shit. The sequel is almost as good as the original and worth checking out as well.

Number 9 ...... Sunshine

Kris...A visually stunning British Sci-fi movie? Totally. Set in the future on a ship headed to jump start the sun, this movie is one of the best looking movies i have ever seen. Cillian Murphy makes his second movie on my top ten list.Chris Evans is also very good here.

Number 10 .....Fracture

Kris....This was a small movie that for some reseon hit me hard. Anthony hopkins gives his best performance since 1997's The edge. The real star though is Ryan Gosling. I expect big things from him in the coming years. Anyways this is a tight thriller of a movie and the pairing of Hopkins and Gossling is amazing.
