Daylight

Disaster in a New York tunnel as explosions collapse both ends of it. One hero tries to help the people inside find their way to safety.

Steph... Ok so this movie is a little older (1996). Normally I don't like Stallone movies but I liked this one. It was a fun entertaining disaster movie. I'd watch again. If you're ever channel surfing and it comes on, check it out.

Captain America

After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals.

Steph... This movie was pretty good, better than I thought this was going to be. Seeing Chris Evans as a short, skinny man was very trippy, it took me out of the movie a little bit. But I liked how they took their time with the story and really developed the character. I'd say its worth a rent.

Crumb

A cinematic portrait of the controversial comic book writer/artist and his traumatized family.

Steph... This was a very interesting documentary. Nothing you need to rush out and see. Crumb is a very strange guy but the art work is amazing.

When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts

An examination of the U.S. government's role and its response to Hurricane Katrina.

Steph... This was an HBO documentary and it was very interesting. It examined all the aspects of Hurricane Katrina from before the storm hit, to the aftermath of the storm and lack of immediate help. It was also very long (4 hours)but well worth it.

Gasland

It is happening all across America-rural landowners wake up one day to find a lucrative offer from an energy company wanting to lease their property. Reason? The company hopes to tap into a reservoir dubbed the "Saudi Arabia of natural gas." Halliburton developed a way to get the gas out of the ground-a hydraulic drilling process called "fracking"-and suddenly America finds itself on the precipice of becoming an energy superpower. Written by Sundance Film Festival

Steph... Wow this documentary was crazy. If you can light your water on fire, you have a major problem. This was a good documentary to watch and very informative.

Good Movies

So good and its out on DVD! :)

In my opinion one of the best movies of the year. Comes on on DVD November 15 :)

I loved every single frame of film of this movie. Ryan Gosling was amazing. Plus, the soundtrack to this movie is a must have. I still think this movie is still in theaters. But if you don't get a chance you know I'm buying this when it comes out (movie night!).

Crazy, Stupid, Love

A father's life unravels while he deals with a marital crisis and tries to manage his relationship with his children.

Steph... This movie was so good. Everyone in this movie was wonderful and played their part perfectly. I love how honest this movie was. No one in this movie is all good and no one is all bad. Everyone is flawed like in real life. Definitely check this one out.

Tarnation

Filmmaker Jonathan Caouette's documentary on growing up with his schizophrenic mother -- a mixture of snapshots, Super-8, answering machine messages, video diaries, early short films, and more -- culled from 19 years of his life.

Steph... I found this documentary to be really disturbing. There was no real flow to it and no real plot. It was like someone combined home movies and visual acid trips together. I know he wanted to give this documentary a dream-like quality and it definitely had that, but it just makes uncomfortable watching it.

Red State

Set in Middle America, a group of teens receive an online invitation for sex, though they soon encounter fundamentalists with a much more sinister agenda.

Steph... Kevin Smith you know I love you. And I think I can see what you were getting at, but this is a B movie at best. But I have to admit that this movie has a really creepy overtone. Because lets face it, super (overly) religious people are kind of creepy. When all common sense and humanity go out the window, its time to run.

Scream 4

Ten years have passed, and Sidney Prescott, who has put herself back together thanks in part to her writing, is visited by the Ghostface Killer.

Steph...Eh? Like most horror films common sense need not apply. Example: That lady who had Ghost Face on her car and when he jumps off and disappears she doesn't drive away, or call the cops, or look for some sort of weapon. Nope. She gets out of her car and looks for him! Dumbass.
However, it was an entertaining way to spend an hour and half, but it in no way surprised me or wowed me. I give Wes Craven credit on making an effort on who the killer(s) were. He made an effort in trying to make it less obvious, but if you thought about it, you can figure it out. Example: If the Ghost Face killer has already killed 6 or 7 people, and killed them the second he makes himself known, and he sees you and just ties you up; you're probably in on it. Or if everyone who disappears for long periods of time is butchered. Yet you keep disappearing for long periods of time and you're fine. Your probably the killer. Just saying.

Killer Elite

When his mentor is taken captive, a retired member of Britain's Elite Special Air Service is forced into action. His mission: kill three assassins dispatched by their cunning leader.

Steph... Not to sound sexist, but this is a total guys movie. Stuff happens that is basically an excuse to hurt someone or blow something up with no real conclusion at the end. But at least Jason Statham and Clive Owen are hot.

Paranormal Activity 3

In 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi befriend an invisible entity who resides in their home.

Steph... Yet again this movie scared the crap out of me! And I enjoyed every second of it! If you've seen the first two you know what to expect. Some of the scares were bolder than in the other movies. And the ending is crazy (you know there is going to be a sequel). The only real problem I have is a lot of the things in the previews aren't in the movie. I think they shot the movie a certain way and then edited it to make it look like the mom had no idea anything was happening. But anyways if you're a fan and you liked the first two, you know you have to go see this! :)

Murderball

A film about paraplegics who play full-contact rugby in Mad Max-style wheelchairs - overcoming unimaginable obstacles to compete in the Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Steph... This was so much fun to watch. I really want to see an actual wheelchair rugby (murderball) game now. Definitely check this one out!

I am Number Four

Aliens and their Guardians are hiding on Earth from intergalactic bounty hunters. They can only be killed in numerical order, and Number Four is next on the list. This is his story.

Steph... This movie was better than I thought it would be but I had some definite problems with it. The lead actor(Alex Pettyfer) was ok but he's character (John Smith) was incredibly stupid. Seriously, if you've seen this movie how did this kid not die? He was told time and time again to lay low and not attract attention to himself, so he would immediately go out and do the opposite. I know he was a teenage boy and they are not generally known for being smart, but seriously dude, common sense. The best part of this movie was the super awesome Timothy Olyphant. How can you not like him? He's a super intense bad ass. It was like "Justified" with aliens (awesome) he just needed the cowboy hat (I missed the cowboy hat). Once his character was gone this movie was no longer interesting. So I guess if you like Olyphant its worth a rental, but don't expect a lot.

Waltz with Bashir

An Israeli film director interviews fellow veterans of the 1982 invasion of Lebanon to reconstruct his own memories of his term of service in that conflict.

Steph... This was a really good documentary (yes, this is a documentary). The use of animation was genius because you feel like you're right there with him trying to figure out his past. And the use of live-action at the end really snaps you back into reality. This is a definite must see.

The Mechanic

Follows an elite hit man as he teaches his trade to an apprentice who has a connection to one of his previous victims.

Steph... I think this was smarter than most action movies, but it was still just ok. You know what your in for when you watch it. All and all its worth a rent.

Hoop Dreams

A film following the lives of two African American boys who struggle to become college basketball players on the road to going professional.

Steph... This was voted the #1 documentary to see before you die. I don't really agree with that. Don't get me wrong. It's a really good documentary. Everyone loves an underdog story, especially when they are a success, but there are many others that I liked better. However, this is a really good documentary and you should watch it if you get the chance.

Contagion

A thriller centered on the threat posed by a deadly disease and an international team of doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with the outbreak.

Steph... This wasn't as good as I expected it to be but this is still a really good movie. This was highly suspenseful because you don't know where this disease came from and its highly contagious. And because there is no known cure this incites a worldwide panic and then there is nothing but chaos and death. This movie really gets in your head and is definitely not for germ-a-phobes. There was a man who coughed in the theater when we were watching this and we immediately thought "uh oh." By the time we left I didn't want to touch a door knob. Definitely check this one out.

Kris... Another really good movie. Great cast and a really scary story. I just kept thinking what i would do if this happened in real life. The scary thing is it seems like it really could happen one day. This is one you should check out.

Drive

A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong.

Steph...I LOVED this movie!!!! It was so great! Action, suspense, some violence, romance, etc. It had just about everything. There was this whole dream like mood to the whole film. And the music in the opening credits and throughout the film really was this kind of techno new wave type music that normally I wouldn't have liked but it really worked with this movie (and by the end I kind of liked it).
All the actors in this movie were good but Ryan Gosling really stood out. Ryan Gosling was wonderful as the man with no name that just drives. He had this really eerie calm about him. His character didn't show a whole lot of emotion, or talked very much, but when he did he meant it. This movie is an absolute must see!!!

Kris... Amazing movie. Ryan Gosling is easily one of the best actors right now. This movie had a very original feel through out. Very stylish and also ultra violent at key moments. The pace of the movie was really original. Switching effortlessly between intense action car chases and almost slow motion moments between gosling and everyone else in the movie. His expressions without any words told the whole story. I say drive fast to the nearest theater and check out drive.

Lord of the Flies

Stranded on an island, a group of schoolboys degenerate into savagery.

Steph...Wow. This movie really made me feel uncomfortable for 2 reasons. 1) the fact that a group of civilized people on a stranded island become so savage so fast. All you have to do is put people on a situation where there are no rules and watch chaos ensue. And 2). for an hour and a half there were half naked little boys running around. Seriously. This movie was like a pedophiles dream. I just kept thinking, "Put some clothes on or some pervert in van's going to come out of nowhere and get you." Movie wise it was all right. You could totally tell that they filmed this movie in Hawaii. I kept having flashbacks of Lost. So nothing you need to rush out and rent but if you're flipping around the channels one night, eh? watch it.

Season of the Witch

14th-century knights transport a suspected witch to a monastery, where monks deduce her powers could be the source of the Black Plague.

Steph... OMG! I love you Kris but this movie was AWFUL!!!! It made no sense and it just dragged on. For some reason, this one character had a New York accent. This movie takes place in 1337 and the actor doing the accent is actually English. Why in the world would you do a New York accent? Its stupid. The only reason this movie was in any way watchable was because Kris's brother Matt kept making fun of it the whole time (Nicholas Cage and his stupid Nickleback hair cut. LOL That was classic). So anyways, this movie totally sucked. This is a definite do not watch!

The Thin Blue Line

A film that successfully argued that a man was wrongly convicted for murder by a corrupt justice system in Dallas County, Texas.

Steph... This was a good murder mystery type of documentary. This documentary actually helped get a wrongly convicted man out of prison. This was nothing you need to rush out and see but it was good.

Street Fight

This documentary follows the 2002 mayoral campaign in Newark, New Jersey in which the Cory Booker attempted to unseat longtime mayor Sharpe James.

Steph... Talk about dirty politics. This was definitely interesting but its not something you need to rush out and watch. However, if you ever come across it you should probably check it out.

Trouble the Water

A redemptive tale of an aspiring rap artist surviving failed levees and her own troubled past and seizing a chance for a new beginning.

Steph... This was a great documentary. You get to see Hurricane Katrina from the perspective of someone who lived through it, and had to stay because they were too poor to leave. There is great footage shot before and after the hurricane hit and its juxtaposed against the news footage of the hurricane. This documentary if nothing else shows FEMA's total failure to help people during the hurricane. This is a good documentary to watch.

Touching the Void

The true story of two climbers and their perilous journey up the west face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985.

Steph...Wow. Crazy. After a bad mountain climbing accident Simon, Joe's climbing partener, believes that Joe is dead. Simon thinking he may die on this freezing mountain makes his way back to camp. Turns out Joe isn't dead, just badly injured, and now has to make it down the mountain with a broken leg all by himself. Amazing. Definitely worth watching.

Man on Wire

A look at tightrope walker Philippe Petit's daring, but illegal, high-wire routine performed between New York City's World Trade Center's twin towers in 1974, what some consider, "the artistic crime of the century."

Steph... I know that this documentary was about Philippe Petit walking on a tightrope between the twin towers but it was always almost a love letter to the World Trade Center. There were photographs of the buildings being built along with the construction workers and people on the roof. This is worth watching not only to see the artistic feat that Philippe accomplished but just for the photographs alone.

Brothers Keeper

This documentary by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky details the murder trial of Delbert Ward. Delbert was a member of a family of four elderly brothers, working as semi-literate farmers and living together in isolation from the rest of society until William's death. A police investigation and Medical Examiner's autopsy suggested that Bill may not have died from natural causes and Delbert was arrested on charges of Second-Degree Murder. Under questioning by police, Delbert appears to have waived his rights and signed a confession, but this film suggests that he may not have been competent to do so. The film explores possible motives for the crime, from 'mercy-killing' (Bill was ill at the time) to progressively more bizarre hypotheses. It also shows how residents of the rural community of Munnsville, NY rallied to the support of one of their own residents (previously considered a social outcast), against what they felt were intrusive 'big-city' police and District Attorney tactics.

Steph... This documentary was good but hard to watch. You couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy. I don't think this movie really solved anything or explained anything. Delbert is an older man with very little education, and is hard of hearing so it was very hard to really get any information out of him. I don't know if this was a must see but it was interesting.

Sunday, September 4, 2011

Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room

A documentary about the Enron corporation, its faulty and corrupt business practices, and how they led to its fall.

Steph... I am definitely in the wrong business. Who knew you could say your latest business venture made millions of dollars without any proof and then give yourself a big bonus based on that. That's what the ERON guys did, and that's why ERON is no more. This was a great documentary about the ego's and pride that built the company up but then ultimately destroyed it. You should definitely check this one out just to see what these guys got away with for so long.

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters

Diehard video game fans compete to break World Records on classic arcade games.

Steph... Wow. Gamers are hardcore. This doc explores the rivalry between Billy Mitchell, the high score champion of Donkey Kong, and Steve Wiebie, the underdog who wants to beat Billy's high score. This isn't something that would normally appeal to me but this doc was mesmerizing. You want to Steve to win so bad because he's such a nice guy and Billy is such a jackass. Its a classic David and Goliath story and totally worth watching.

Little Dieter Needs to Fly

German-American Dieter Dengler discusses his service as an American naval pilot in the Vietnam War. Dengler also revisits the sites of his capture and eventual escape from the hands of the Vietcong, recreating many events for the camera.

Steph... This was the story of the real-life Rescue Dawn. Dieter's willingness to be so honest about his experience and to re-enact of of it was amazing. The fact that a human being can go through all that he went through and still be a sane, functioning person is just mind blowing.

Burma VJ

Burma VJ: Reporting from a Closed Country is a 2008 documentary film directed by Anders Østergaard. It follows the September 2007 uprisings against the military regime in Burma.[2] Some of it was filmed on hand-held cameras, and the footage was smuggled out of the country.[3] Other parts of it were reconstructed, which caused controversy.

Steph... Interesting. It was cool to see a revolution unfold before your eyes.

Taxi to the Dark Side

An in-depth look at the torture practices of the United States in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, focusing on an innocent taxi driver in Afghanistan who was tortured and killed in 2002.

Steph... Wow. This doc really pisses you off and makes you worry at the same time. This one is a must see.

The Decline of Western Civilization Part 2: The Metal Years

The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years is a documentary film directed by Penelope Spheeris about the Los Angeles heavy metal scene from 1986 to 1988. It is the second film of a trilogy by Spheeris depicting life in Los Angeles at various points in time. The first film dealt with the punk rock scene during 1979-1980. The third film chronicles the gutter punk lifestyle of homeless teenagers in the late 1990s.
The film features concert footage and interviews of legendary heavy metal and hard rock bands and artists such as Aerosmith, Kiss, Megadeth, Motörhead, Ozzy Osbourne, W.A.S.P, and Alice Cooper. The film premiered at The Wiltern Theatre and featured David F. Castagno, Publisher/Editor of Screamer Magazine as the master of ceremony.

Steph... A documentary about Heavy Metal in the 80's? Its almost like this movie was made just for me. This is so my thing. I was born too late, I should have been there. This is definitely a must see.

Capturing the Friedmans

Documentary on the Friedmans, a seemingly typical, upper-middleclass Jewish family whose world is instantly transformed when the father and his youngest son are arrested and charged with shocking and horrible crimes.

Steph... And I thought my family was dysfunctional. This was a good documentary but I felt strange watching it. Old home movies of this family was used in the documentary, it just feels weird watching this family falling apart in front of you. You almost feel like you're there. This is worth watching.

Paris is Buring

An unblinking behind the scenes story of fashion obsessed New Yorkers who created "voguing" and drag balls , and turned these raucous celebrations into a powerful expression pf personal pride. The world within a world is instantly familiar, filled with ambitions, desires and yearnings that reflect America itself. PARIS IS BURNING is an intimate portrait of one urban community, a world in which the allure of high fashion, status and wealth becomes an affirmation of love, acceptance and joy.

Steph... Very interesting. I liked how this documentary really breaks everything down and I learned some new terms (Mopping = Stealing, etc). Totally fun (except the last part is kind of sad). Worth a look.

Paragraph 175

Historian Klaus Müller interviews survivors of the Nazi persecution of homosexuals because of the German Penal Code of 1871, Paragraph 175.

Steph... This was such a good documentary. To really show the watcher the impact of paragraph 175, they talked about and showed how open and free Berlin was before Hitler's rise to power. Definitely worth watching.

Sunday, August 28, 2011

The Tillman Story

Pat Tillman never thought of himself as a hero. His choice to leave a multimillion-dollar football contract and join the military wasn't done for any reason other than he felt it was the right thing to do. The fact that the military manipulated his tragic death in the line of duty into a propaganda tool is unfathomable and thoroughly explored in Amir Bar-Lev's riveting and enraging documentary.

Steph... So good. I really liked this one. Definitely check this one out.

Bus 174

On June 12th, 2000, a bus full of passengers was kidnapped in Rio de Janeiro in broad daylight. The kidnapper, Sandro do Nascimento, terrorized his victims and when he finally agreed to surrender and the episode was close to an end, a policeman tried to shoot him, killing one of the hostages instead, a young woman. The whole episode was broadcast live, causing revolt among the population. The documentary is about the incident, with interviews, focusing on Sandro do Nascimento, his childhood, and how unavoidably he was doomed to become a bandit.

Steph... This documentary had great live footage of the incident. It was kind of long and dragged in some places but overall was very interesting.

Biggie and Tupac

Documentary on the deaths of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls and the East Coast/West Coast, hip-hop/rap rivalry that culminated in late 1996 and early 1997.

Steph... This documentary was on the list of the 50 Documentaries to see before you die and I'm not sure why. I'n not into rap music so maybe I'm just being biased but you decide. If you haven't see the documentary this is all that happens for an hour and a half, "What do you think of the allegations that Sug Knight had something to do with either of these deaths?" "Who are? How did you get my number? Shut the camera off. I don't know nothing." That was the whole documentary. The only bright spot was Biggie's mom. She's a very sweet lady. Other than that there isn't much to this doc.

The Way Back

Siberian gulag escapees walk 4000 miles overland to freedom in India.

Steph... You know I don't mind a movie being slow as long as it leads somewhere, this movie, however, was just boring. I love you Jim Sturgess and Colin Farrell but oh my god. Only watch this movie if you're having trouble sleeping.

Friday, August 19, 2011

Roger and Me

Director Michael Moore pursues GM CEO Roger Smith to confront him about the harm he did to Flint, Michigan with his massive downsizing.

Steph... This documentary was really sad. It almost felt like a smaller version of everything that is going on economically in our country now i.e the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. Check this one out.

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

One Day in September

The Palestinian terrorist group Black September holds Israeli athletes hostage at the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich.

Steph. What a great documentary. It really makes you think. The security was so lax at the Munich Olympics in 1972 that the terrorist basically just had to hope a fence. And while watching this I couldn't help but think, whether I'm right or wrong, that the German government at that time was still a little anti-semantic. For some reason the Germany army wasn't allowed to go in and get the hostages, and the German police messed up every opportunity they had to get them. It would have been comical if it weren't so tragic. Seriously, the best way I know how to describe the German police in this documentary is cluster fuck. This was very riveting and you should totally check this out.

Dogtown and Z-Boys

Documentary about the pioneering 1970s Zephyr skating team.

Steph.. A very interesting documentary about the birth of modern skateboarding. The history of the sport is very entertaining and the still photographs and original footage are amazing. Worth checking out.

Paradise Lost

A horrific triple child murder leads to an indictment and trial of three nonconformist boys based on questionable evidence.

Steph...Wow. Talk about a town being ass backwards. After 3 boys are found horribly murdered, the town of West Memphis assumes it must be some sort of occult killing and rush out and charge three teenagers with the crime because they wear black and listen to heavy metal. All three teenagers are later convicted and one is sentenced to death. The film makers of this documentary said that they tried to make it so you didn't know if the teenagers killed the boys or not. Watching this, to me, it was clear that these teenagers were basically being railroaded (at one point the prosecutor says very plainly that they don't have much evidence against the boys but that they must have done it). In the years since this was made a lot more evidence has come to light. But not against the "West Memphis Three," but against the step-dad of one of the murdered boys. This documentary is a great example of how biased people can be against you just for being a non-conformist. Definitely watch this.

When We Were Kings

A documentary of the 1974 heavyweight championship bout in Zaire between champion George Foreman and underdog challenger Muhammad Ali.

Steph... I liked this documentary. It was interesting to see how much work went into putting the fight together. And its hard to believe that there was ever a time where Mohamed Ali was the under-dog.Plus,you gotta love the way he completely psyched out George Foreman. Not just for boxing fans. This is definitely worth a watch.

Madonna: Truth or Dare

Documentary following singer Madonna on her controversial Blond Ambition tour in 1990.

Steph... I'm not a big Madonna fan (I like her early stuff but that's it)so I really didn't think that I was going to like this documentary, but I was wrong. It was actually really good and very interesting. I really didn't need to see all the performances that were in the documentary. Plus, the stage performances were really loud and the behind the scenes footage was really quiet so I had to keep messing with the sound. Other than that it was pretty good. Worth a watch.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

Kris... I liked this one. Its a little slow at first when they are setting up the story but it gets going pretty good. All the actors are solid including James Franco and John Lithgow. I am a big fan of the original films in the 60's and 70's so this one had a lot to live up to. And it did but i wouldn't say its better than the originals. Anyways if you like action and some drama then check out Rise of the planet of the apes.

Steph...I liked this one to. I LOVE monkeys so this was a must see for me, even though they were CGI. It was pretty good but, to me, it felt like it was missing something to make it great. But it was definitely a good movie. This one is worth checking out.

Source Code

Source Code 2011 Pictures, Images and Photos

Jake Gyllenhaal headlines this sci-fi time-travel thriller directed by Moon's Duncan Jones from a script by Ben Ripley and Billy Ray. A bomb explodes on a Chicago train, derailing the locomotive and killing hundreds. In an attempt to identify the bomber and prevent another, larger attack on downtown Chicago, Captain Colter Stevens (Gyllenhaal) agrees to take part in a clandestine government experiment dubbed "Source Code," which allows him to enter the body of a male passenger during the eight minutes before the man is killed. But during his first trip back, Capt. Stevens fails to gather enough clues to prevent the second attack. With time quickly running out, he repeats the mission ad nauseam in a desperate race to head off one of the most deadly terrorist attacks ever to take place on American soil.

Steph... This movie was ok. It was interesting, and better than most, but it was just alright. The only reason to watch this movie is for Jake. He's always fun to watch :)

Kris... It was good but not great. Gyllenhaal was solid and the story had me interested through out but it was missing something to put it over the top. Still its worth checking out.

All Good Things

INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY of the most notorious unsolved missing person’s case in New York history. ALL GOOD THINGS is a love story and murder mystery set against the backdrop of a New York real estate dynasty in the 1980s. Produced and directed by Andrew Jarecki (director of the Academy Award®-nominated Capturing the Friedmans and producer of Catfish), this psychological thriller was inspired by the disappearance of Kathie McCormack, wife of real estate heir Robert Durst. Mr. Durst was suspected but never tried for killing his wife Kathie who disappeared in 1982 and was never found.

Steph... This movie was good but kind of long. Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst did a really good job. Ryan Gosling was especially good at playing a psychopath (he went from totally normal to bat shit crazy within the course of this film). Because this movie is based on true events it makes the ending even more sad. All and all I think this movie is worth a rent.

Kris.... I liked this one. But ill say I liked the first half more than the last. Ryan Gosling is one of the best actors around and he shines here again. I usually refer to Kirsten Dunst as the girl with the dead eyes. But here she is actually good.So for the two performances and a good story I say check out All good things.

Insidious

Insidious Pictures, Images and Photos

A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

Steph... Super creepy. I thought this was just going to be a cheesy horror flick but it was really scary. But there were some scenes where the parents really frustrated me. For example, if I thought I saw some creepy stranger in my child's room, I'm calling the cops. I don't care if you think I'm a lunatic. I'm calling the cops. Plus, I don't think the dad fought enough at the end. Kris and I both agreed that if some entity was threatening our child, that bitch wouldn't stand a chance against us. I'm not waiting for you to go after me. I'm going to find you and take you out. Nobody threatens my "some day future child." Lol. Sorry. I had to rant for a moment. But anyways check this movie out, its scary.

Kris... This one is pretty scary. Good acting and a creepy story. It was really annoying that they never called the cops. But if you like horror movies then this one is a must see.

Hobo with a Shotgun

A homeless vigilante blows away crooked cops, pedophile Santas, and other scumbags with his trusty pump-action shotgun.

Steph... Rutger Hauer how I missed you! This movie delivered everything it promised. Its definitely not supposed to me taken seriously. It was just a fun, over the top violence, silly, crazy movie. Plus, there are memorable movie lines you can say to your friends for weeks to come. Definitely check this one out.

Kris... A B-movie horror delight. Totally over the top gore with bad acting on top. But I laughed through out the whole movie. One high light was a mans head being pulled off and spraying blood like a fountain. Then a hot girl in a bikini dancing in the spraying blood. If that sounds like your kind of thing then you will love this movie.

Rubber

When Robert, a tire, discovers his destructive telepathic powers, he soon sets his sights on a desert town; in particular, a mysterious woman becomes his obsession.

Steph... This movie made absolutely no sense and I really liked it. It was funny and stupid and insane all at the same time. I definitely think this is a must watch if for nothing else then to say that you saw a movie about a tire that kills people telepathically.

Kris... I really don't know what to think of this one. It is a very original idea and the way the film makers made the tired move around is amazing but the concept gets old very fast. When this comes out on cable its worth checking out but you might not make it through the whole movie.

Screw Balls

Frolicking youth comedy about zany high school students set in the 1960s.

Steph... Ha ha wow. This was borderline porn (and a movie night movie). So stupid. The whole plot was about a group of overly horny teenage boys trying to see a popular virgin girls breasts. So stupid.

Kris.... Lots of boobs and stupid humor surrounding them? Yep my kind of movie. I cant believe i had never heard of this one before. I have seen a ton of b-movie/ midnight movies and this one is pretty good. Every this steph said in her review is totally true and yet that is why I am recommending this movie. Just sit back and laugh.

Psychomania

A gang of young people call themselves the Living Dead. They terrorize the population from their small town. After an agreement with the devil, if they kill themselves firmly believing in it, they will survive and gain eternal life. Following their leader, they commit suicide one after the other, but things don't necessarily turn out as expected.

Steph... This movie was awful but you know that going in. It was cheesy and tacky but I didn't have a problem with that. The problem was that it just drags on forever. It was very slow and obvious. The head biker guy made me laugh though. He's the leader of a motorcycle gang but he lives in a mansion with his mother and a butler and all his motorcycle gang ever really does is pester pedestrians . Yeah dude, your a real badass. lol. Not worth watching unless you must see a bad movie.

Kris... I was hoping for more after seeing the trailer before another movie. The story could have been good but the acting isn't great and it never really does any where. About the only thing i liked about it was the British feel over all. But i say you can skip this one.

Green Lantern

A test pilot is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.

Steph... This movie was a lot better than I thought it would be. It was kind of cheesy but Ryan Reynolds' charm helps you see past that. Its not a spectacular movie but it was ok. Definitely worth a rent.

Kris... Steph hit this one right on. Ryan Reynolds is on of my favorite actors and he is just about the only reason to see this one.Although I must say that Blake Lively was pretty good too. Its worth a rent.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II Pictures, Images and Photos

Harry, Ron and Hermione search for Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes in their effort to destroy the Dark Lord once and for all.

Steph... Before I start my review I just want to give a shout out to Kris who sat through this movie having never seen a Harry Potter movie and not knowing what was going on just to make me happy. Love you babe.

Ok. Now for the review. I really liked this movie. It really lived up to the book. My favorite part of the movie (and the book) was when it was revealed that Snape (the ultimate sleeper cell) was and had always been a good guy. And if you've read the books and seen all the movies how could you not like the end where it shows their lives 19 years later? It was a very sweet sentimental ending. I did have one problem with it though. I think the make up people aged Harry wonderfully, but the other 3 not so much. Really it's just a minor problem. So if you're a Harry Potter fan this is a must see!

Kris... Having to seen even one moment of any of the other potter films i must say i was under whelmed by this one. The action was ok and the actors were ok. Ya this whole movie was just ok. If you have seen the rest then you might as well finish off the series but if you haven't seen any of them then go ahead and skip it. Unless you totally love your girlfriend then do as I did and take her to see it.

Beginners

beginners Pictures, Images and Photos

From writer/director Mike Mills comes a comedy/drama about how deeply funny and transformative life can be, even at its most serious moments. -Beginners- imaginatively explores the hilarity, confusion, and surprises of love through the evolving consciousness of Oliver (Golden Globe Award nominee Ewan McGregor). Oliver meets the irreverent and unpredictable Anna (Melanie Laurent of Inglourious Basterds) only months after his father Hal (Academy Award nominee Christopher Plummer) has passed away. This new love floods Oliver with memories of his father who - following 44 years of marriage - came out of the closet at age 75 to live a full, energized, and wonderfully tumultuous gay life. The upheavals of Hal's new honesty, by turns funny and moving, brought father and son closer than they'd ever been able to be. Now Oliver endeavors to love Anna with all the bravery, humor, and hope that his father taught him.

Steph... This movie was smart, funny, introspective, has amazing actors in it, and is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time; so good luck trying to find it playing anywhere near you. Really, I think its just play in Brea and Hollywood. But seriously this movie was so good. Everyone in this movie was great. I truly enjoyed watching it. Definitely worth seeing.

Kris... Amazing movie. Ewan McGregor is so good as always and plummer and laurent are both really good also. Great acting combined with a touching story make this one one of the best this year with out a doubt. You may have to drive farther than normal to find it but you wont be disappointed.

I Spit On Your Grave

I Spit on your grave Pictures, Images and Photos

I Spit on Your Grave is a 2010 American rape and revenge horror film, and a remake of the controversial 1978 cult film of the same name. In the movie, A writer who is brutalized during her cabin retreat seeks revenge on her attackers, who left her for dead.

Steph...Talk about revenge. I like a good horror movie but I just don't need to see a rape scene. I understand why its in the movie. I mean after all it is a "rape revenge" story. Plus, when she goes ape shit on their asses, not only do you understand why, but you support it. But I still don't like watching rape scenes (but then again who does?) Anyways, when the tables are turned it gets brutal. Boy does she ever get her revenge! So if you like a good revenge story and can get through the first part, its worth a watch.

Kris.... Not bad but not great either. The rape scene didnt really bother me as much as the one in "Last house on the left". Actually that movie was all around better than this one. Any way the acting is all right in this one. The revenge deaths were nice and gruesome. Its a rental at best.
