The Stoning of Soraya M

Steph...This movie is intense. Soraya M is an abused wife in an Iranian village who's husband wants a divorce to marry the daughter of a wealthy man he guards in prison. She refuses because he will leave her and her daughters to starve in the villiage while he takes their sons to live in the city. Soraya's husband with the help of the men running the village force her to take a job taking care of a widow so she can have some money and her husband can leave. Soraya's husband is ok with this but then decides its much faster just to say she's having an affair with the widow and have her stoned to death. Basically all he does is accuse her and she's found guilty. The stoning scene is very graphic but its there to make a point. I couldn't help but to start crying when Soraya's husband gave their sons stones to throw at her. This movie will break your heart but its worth watching.

Death at a Funeral

Steph....Not bad but I liked the original British 2007 version much better though. I like Chris Rock but this was pretty much a shot by shot remake. He didn't put much of himself into it. And, I'm sorry, but Martin Lawrence just can't act. I was very aware that I was watching him in a movie. James Marsden was very good though. He played the best part of the movie, the nice guy that accidentally takes drugs and becomes wacky. So this movie isn't bad but if you want to see it, I say skip this one and watch the original.

Kris... I have 2 reviews for this one. If you have seen the British original than this one was just OK. If you have not seen the original than you will really like this. Its basically a shot for shot remake just with black actors. Having said that they all did a good job. Chris Rock is always solid. Martin Lawrence, Danny Glover, Tracy Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Luke Wilson were solid but not special. The real thief in this movie is James Marsden who steals the movie. So all in all it was all right, i enjoyed it but was a little bored because i felt i had all ready seen this movie before.

When You're Strange

Steph...What's not to love about this documentary? It's about The Doors! Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a HUGE doors fan. This movie was funny, informitaive, there was never before seen footage, and narrated by Johnny Depp. The only way this could have been more perfect was if they somehow managed to throw in Ewan McGregor and Jack White. Its not the easiest movie to (only 3 theaters in SoCal) but if your a doors fan its a must! :)

Kris.... Steph is a Doors nut and while i really like them i didnt know that much about them. This is a very good and fun look at the history of the doors. Its amazing what they accomplished in just 54 months. If you are a classic rock fan and/or a doors fan this is a must see documentary.

Repomen

Kris.... Set in the sort of near future, a large company makes human organs and sells they for huge prices to people who need them. But the catch is if they cant make the payments then a repoman comes and cuts it out of you. Jude Law and Forest Whitaker are the repomen. Jude is great. He is tough yet vulnerable and you really pull for him. Whitaker is a solid actor but his eye is a big distraction for me.There is a totally unnecessary twist at the end but all in all i liked this movie. There is one thing that will turn a lot of people off about this movie and that is the blood. I am all for bloody movies ,in fact i love them but the blood here is very uncomfortable as people are cut open and jude reaches into them for organs or even gets his own organs scanned. Its just too much. But if you like sci-fi and can handle the blood then this is one you will like.

Chloe

Steph...Chloe is an erotic thriller about a woman (Julianne Moore) who hires a prostitute,Chloe,played by Amanda Seyfried, to seduce her husband (Liam Neeson) who she thinks is cheating on her. The more Chloe tells her about what she does with her husband, the more she feels drawn to Chloe. The closer she gets to Chloe the more she realizes that there is something not quite right with this girl. Julianne Moore was amazing a wife who just wants to be close to her husband again but doesn't know how to connect with him. Amanda Seyfried was good as Chloe playing innocent, smart, manipulative, and slight fatal attraction all at once. Liam Neeson was pretty good to as the husband who your not sure if he's cheating or not. Plus, for you guys out there, or OK you girls to, there is a hot lesbian scene a little past the midway point. I think you can see the plot twist coming from a mile away but it was an okay movie. This movie may not be for everyone but I liked it.

Kris...I really liked this movie. Yes you see what going on pretty soon into the movie but the acting is very good.Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore are always solid and they are here to. But the real star here is Amanda Seyfried. She is very sexy and yet also vulnerable. OK none of that matters. The real reason to see this is the lesbian scene. It is very hot but a little short. So if you like erotic dramas this is one you should check out.
